Fero support for Victorian competition

Melbourne, August 29, 2011

Fero takes seriously its commitment to the community through sponsorship of a major safety competition.

For the second year running, Fero has sponsored the Victorian Underground Mine Rescue Competition.

Simon Donkers, Fero’s Technical Sales manager for South-East Australia, was one of the volunteers in the staging of the event and said that it was another unqualified success.

“Organisers were a little disappointed that there were three less teams than the previous year but high hopes are held for next year’s 25th anniversary.”

A team representing three different sites from Western Australia managed to win overall and four individual events.

“The team had just the one training session two days before the event. They met at the airport before heading east. They really gelled as a team,” Mr Donkers said.

“Their gear was lost in transit and only arrived just before the competition started. In the meantime, they had to borrow equipment off Fosterwill to do the training.

“The young team was led by a lady and it proved to be a standout team,” he said.

The competing teams had realistic and challenging exercises from which they gained much valuable knowledge, experience and team development.
