Boost for Fero sales team

Perth, September 11, 2011

Fero has boosted its sales division with an enterprising and experienced sales executive.

Nigel Birkhead has steel flowing in his blood.

From making bolts and driving forklifts in the school holidays for his father’s steel fabrication factory, Nigel has maintained a keen interest and career in the steel industry.

Nigel has joined the team from the East Coast where he was most recently the ARC branch manager in Rockhampton dealing mainly with distribution and reinforcing for the past four years.

His steel fabrication and construction background stands him in good stead for the new role, made vacant by the recent retirement of Bob Jardine.

Nigel hails from Perth and left the State in 2004 where he worked for eight years with the OneSteel Group and then Bluescope. He spent two years in Lismore and two years south of Sydney before heading to Rockhampton.

His focus in Perth will be on sandblasting and painting. “It’s generally not known that we have an 11,000 square-metre painting shop and the biggest galvanizing bath in the State. My job is to make those areas busier than they are now.

“It’s basically about servicing clients and accounts.

“There are a lot of fabrication workshops relying on jobs from the North-West and associated industries. There is a flow-on effect with the mining boom in the North-West.

“Since the new financial year the activity in the market has noticeably increased, especially with projects in the Pilbara.”

Nigel said that Fero has the capacity and capability to deal with these major projects, while not forgetting Fero’s smaller customers.

He said that coming from a corporate environment to a family-owned situation was almost a relief. “Decisions can be made much faster.”

Nigel will work closely with the anti-corrosion division, galvanising, sandblasting and painting with emphasis on the metro area from Mandurah to Northam.

“Fero is quality assured and has a great team in place to ensure that all jobs are completed to the customers’ requirements. The team is ably spearheaded by Group Sales Manager Philip Martin.

“What I like about Fero is that it is proactive with a can-do attitude and a willingness to go forward and surpass customers’ expectations,” he said.

“Any untoward mistakes or non-conformation, Fero will get the problem fixed straight away, promptly and efficiently.”

Welcome aboard, Nigel.
