Fero busy with Gateway project

July 22, 2014

Fero Group Sales Manager Reinforcing Jamie Buchanan is proud of Fero’s involvement in the State-changing Gateway WA project around Perth Airport.

“Gateway WA is a $1 billion infrastructure project, to improve the access to Perth airport and surrounding industrial areas, increasing safety and efficiency in a major hub of Western Australia’s transport network.

“With numerous bridges, baths, road realignments and new roads altogether, this has been a major project for Fero Reinforcing.

“The Gateway WA team has been fantastic to work with, great at communication and we have been able to get some excellent gains in terms of the progress of the job as a result of the teamwork between Gateway WA and Fero Reinforcing.

“The long-term benefit of this project to Western Australia is something that Fero Reinforcing is proud to be a part of,” Jamie said.

Initial work started in 2013 and the full scope of works is  expected to be completed by January 2017.
Using innovative urban design, the project incorporates road and bridge improvements, local road modifications, facilities and connections for pedestrians and cyclists, noise walls, landscaping and the use of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Technology.

As part of the Gateway WA project:

•   Tonkin Highway (between Great Eastern Highway and Roe Highway) will be widened to six lanes;

•   Leach Highway (between Orrong Road and the Perth Airport) will be upgraded to an expressway standard;

•   New grade separated interchanges will be constructed at:

• Tonkin Highway/Leach Highway;

• Tonkin Highway/Horrie Miller Drive/Kewdale Road

•
Leach Highway/Abernethy Road

• Tonkin Highway/Dunreath Drive

•   Upgraded interchange at:

◦                    • Tonkin Highway/Roe Highway

•   An on-ramp has been constructed at Abernethy Road to Tonkin Highway (southbound);

•   Improved pedestrian and cyclist facilities will be installed;

•   Local road improvements through the Kewdale industrial precinct are being undertaken;

•   The landscape will be developed through urban design and public art.

The Gateway WA project is divided into three zones — Northern, Southern and Western, that classify the major construction packages into their respective localities. Each zone has a dedicated project manager, design and construction team.

Fero Reinforcing will proudly be with the Gateway WA project throughout construction, Jamie said.
